CVE-2022-31097: Stored XSS in Grafana's Unified Alerting
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Plan (action score 55/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 70% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 99.3% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. A user must open a link or visit a page. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: github.com/grafana/grafana (Go) 8.3.10, 8.4.10, 8.5.9; dracut-saltboot (openSUSE:Leap 15.3) 0.1.1661440542.6cbe0da-150000.1.38.1, 0.1.1665997480.587fa10-150000.1.41.1; golang-github-boynux-squid_exporter (openSUSE:Leap 15.3) 1.6-150000.1.9.1.
Add it to your regular patch cycle. Upgrade to github.com/grafana/grafana (Go) 8.3.10, 8.4.10, 8.5.9; dracut-saltboot (openSUSE:Leap 15.3) 0.1.1661440542.6cbe0da-150000.1.38.1, 0.1.1665997480.587fa10-150000.1.41.1; golang-github-boynux-squid_exporter (openSUSE:Leap 15.3) 1.6-150000.1.9.1 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
Grafana is an open-source platform for monitoring and observability. Versions on the 8.x and 9.x branch prior to 9.0.3, 8.5.9, 8.4.10, and 8.3.10 are vulnerable to stored cross-site scripting via the Unified Alerting feature of Grafana. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to escalate privilege from editor to admin by tricking an authenticated admin to click on a link. Versions 9.0.3, 8.5.9, 8.4.10, and 8.3.10 contain a patch. As a workaround, it is possible to disable alerting or use legacy alerting.

This is a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability. A well-configured Content-Security-Policy doesn't fix it, but greatly reduces its impact. Check your site's CSP and other security headers for free.
