Wekan: Shell Injection via Avatar Upload
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 39/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.78% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 55.2% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: wekan wekan 9.07.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to wekan wekan 9.07 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
Wekan is open source kanban built with Meteor. Prior to 9.07, Wekan avatar upload functionality embeds user-supplied filenames into paths later passed to child_process.exec() for MIME-type detection. Because models/avatars.js and models/fileValidation.js used a shell command with the avatar filename, shell metacharacters such as backticks and $() in the filename could execute commands on the server. This issue is fixed in version 9.07.
