Gimp: gimp: memory corruption due to integer overflow in ico file handling
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 26/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.83% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 57% of all records.
- Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. No account or password is required. A user must open a link or visit a page. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: gimp (Debian:11) 2.10.22-4+deb11u6; gimp (Debian:12) 2.10.34-1+deb12u8; gimp (Debian:13) 3.0.4-3+deb13u6.
- Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 4.3, NVD 6.5.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to gimp (Debian:11) 2.10.22-4+deb11u6; gimp (Debian:12) 2.10.34-1+deb12u8; gimp (Debian:13) 3.0.4-3+deb13u6 or later.

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS
A flaw was found in GIMP. An integer overflow vulnerability exists when processing ICO image files, specifically in the `ico_read_info` and `ico_read_icon` functions. This issue arises because a size calculation for image buffers can wrap around due to a 32-bit integer evaluation, allowing oversized image headers to bypass security checks. A remote attacker could exploit this by providing a specially crafted ICO file, leading to a buffer overflow and memory corruption, which may result in an application level denial of service.
