Samba: missing access check on reparse point operations

Noroxi assessment

Priority: Monitor (action score 26/100)

  • The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
  • Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.86% (FIRST EPSS); higher than 57.8% of all records.
  • Anyone who can reach it over the internet can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
  • Fixed version: ldb-tools (AlmaLinux:10) 4.23.5-109.el10_2; libldb (AlmaLinux:10) 4.23.5-109.el10_2; libldb-devel (AlmaLinux:10) 4.23.5-109.el10_2.

Low priority for now. Upgrade to ldb-tools (AlmaLinux:10) 4.23.5-109.el10_2; libldb (AlmaLinux:10) 4.23.5-109.el10_2; libldb-devel (AlmaLinux:10) 4.23.5-109.el10_2 or later.

Generated automatically from the record's data: CVSS (NVD and CNA), CISA KEV and SSVC, FIRST EPSS, exploit sources, fixed versions. How we calculate it

Primary sources: NVD · CVE.org · FIRST EPSS

A flaw was found in Samba’s handling of NTFS-style reparse points on shares configured with read only = yes. Due to missing SMB-layer access checks, authenticated users with underlying filesystem write permissions may create or delete reparse point metadata through SMB operations even on read-only exports. This could allow modification of SMB-visible file behavior, including converting files into symbolic links or other reparse point types.
