OpenSC: Out of Bounds vulnerability
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 27/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.25% (FIRST EPSS).
- Physical access to the device is required. No account or password is required. No user action is required. No special conditions are required; it is repeatable.
- Fixed version: OpenSC OpenSC 0.27.0; azl3 opensc 0.26.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 0.27.1-1; cbl2 opensc 0.23.0-5 on CBL Mariner 2.0 0.23.0-6.
- Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 3.9, NVD 6.8.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to OpenSC OpenSC 0.27.0; azl3 opensc 0.26.1-1 on Azure Linux 3.0 0.27.1-1; cbl2 opensc 0.23.0-5 on CBL Mariner 2.0 0.23.0-6 or later.

OpenSC is an open source smart card tools and middleware. Prior to version 0.27.0, feeding a crafted input to the fuzz_pkcs15_reader harness causes OpenSC to perform an out-of-bounds heap read in the X.509/SPKI handling path. Specifically, sc_pkcs15_pubkey_from_spki_fields() allocates a zero-length buffer and then reads one byte past the end of that allocation. This issue has been patched in version 0.27.0.
