CVE-2025-38028: NFS/localio: Fix a race in nfs_local_open_fh()
Noroxi assessment
Priority: Monitor (action score 18/100)
- The sources we track (CISA KEV, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nuclei, GitHub) show no public exploit code or exploitation in the wild.
- Probability of exploitation in the next 30 days: 0.12% (FIRST EPSS).
- Someone with local access to the system can trigger it. A low-privileged account is enough. No user action is required. Special conditions such as timing or configuration are required.
- Fixed version: Linux Linux 185a2f2ddabdcf999823f61de67f86376883920d, fa7ab64f1e2fdc8f2603aab8e0dd20de89cb10d9.
- Severity is disputed: the assigning authority (CNA) scores it 7.8, NVD 4.7.
Low priority for now. Upgrade to Linux Linux 185a2f2ddabdcf999823f61de67f86376883920d, fa7ab64f1e2fdc8f2603aab8e0dd20de89cb10d9 or later.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFS/localio: Fix a race in nfs_local_open_fh() Once the clp->cl_uuid.lock has been dropped, another CPU could come in and free the struct nfsd_file that was just added. To prevent that from happening, take the RCU read lock before dropping the spin lock.
